Why Test for Radon in Western North Carolina

The state says 90 of North Carolina’s 100 counties have elevated radon levels. The North Carolina Radon Program recommends testing every home.

You can’t see or smell radon, so a test is the only way to know a home’s level. Ours runs during your due diligence, while you can still ask the seller to fix it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Is a Radon Test?

Our radon test is $140 when you add it to a home inspection. That covers the monitor, 48 hours of readings and a call to go over the result. For a test without an inspection, call or text 828-273-7662 and we’ll give you that price.

What If the Radon Level Comes Back High?

A high number doesn’t mean you should walk away from the house. A radon mitigation contractor can put in a system to bring the level down. Since you test before closing, you can ask the seller to cover it in your repair request.

Can I Get a Free Radon Test Kit in North Carolina?

Yes. The NC Radon Program handed out free kits starting January 1, 2026, first come, first served. A kit works for a home you already own. When you’re buying, see the comparison above for what our test adds.

Is a Radon Test Required When Buying a Home?

It’s your call as the buyer. NC REALTORS says a seller who knows the home tested at 4 pCi/L or higher must disclose it, and that it’s best practice to ask the seller for past results. If there aren’t any, our test gives you one.

It’s a Newer House with No Basement. Do I Still Need a Radon Test?

Yes. The EPA says any home can have a radon problem, new or old, with or without a basement. The NC Radon Program recommends testing every home, and a test during your due diligence is the only way to know this one’s level.

Still have a question? Call or text us at 828-273-7662.
