A continuous monitor runs in the home for 48 hours and logs radon levels the whole time. You get results measured against the EPA action level. Our inspector trained in radon measurement at Auburn University.

The wood-destroying insect report most Asheville home sales call for. We set it up with your inspection, and a licensed pest control company, Pest Marshals, does the WDIR inspection and report.

We collect the sample and send it to a lab. Pick a bacteria test, the lender scan many home loans require, or a premium scan with a broader lab panel. Worth it for any home on a private well.

Plenty of mountain homes run on a septic tank. A septic inspection checks that the tank and drain field work as designed. On city sewer instead? Add a sewer scope, a camera run through the main line.

We check the whole house, from the foundation to the roof. These six finds come from two of our reports this fall, with names and addresses left out. One is a ranch home over 50 years old with a basement. The other is a slab home just over 10 years old.
A typical AVL report runs 40 to 60 pages with around 100 photos, each marked so you can see exactly what we mean.

Hover a number on the house to see what we found there.

We held a level to the rear foundation wall and found horizontal cracking with measurable inward movement. The crack had been caulked over.
The fix starts with a licensed engineer, then a contractor makes repairs to the engineer's plan.

In the panel, a breaker was too big for its wire: 14-gauge wire on a 20-amp breaker. Inspectors call that over-fused, and it can let the wire overheat. We also found wires doubled up under single screws.
That one goes to a licensed electrician.

An engineered roof truss had been cut to fit a whole-house fan, and a few members were coming loose. Our note on the photo: “Needs To Connect Somehow.”
A qualified contractor needs to tie it back together.

From inside the attic, we could see daylight around the boot where a plumbing vent goes through the roof. A boot should not let daylight into the attic. The shingles on that roof were brittle, pitted and starting to crack.
We referred it to a licensed roofer.

Stains on the garage side of a foundation wall pointed to a leak behind the primary bathroom. We also found a leak under a bath sink and two toilets leaking after flushing.
The buyers needed a licensed plumber and a camera scope of the drain lines.

The radiant floor heat in the primary bathroom wouldn't warm up. We checked the tile with a thermal camera to confirm no heat was reaching it. In the same house, the heat pump only ran in emergency heat.
We recommended a licensed HVAC contractor.

Construction runs in Jeff's family. His grandfather did grading on the later phases of Disney's Epcot and MGM Studios. Jeff went on to earn his NC general contractor license and run a contracting business of his own.
He started inspecting in 2005 and has completed more than 7,500 home inspections in his career. In 2026 he opened AVL Inspections.
